Our camps, designed for rising 7th to 10th graders in the Topeka, Kansas region, offer hands-on learning in a variety of exciting fields. From auto service and collision repair to culinary arts and healthcare, each camp is crafted to spark curiosity and enhance skills. Our dedicated sessions on electrical, diesel technology, plumbing, and more not only broaden knowledge but also highlight potential career paths. Join us this June for a week of learning, discovery and fun right here in Topeka!

About the 2024 summer camps

Students will pick their top 5 programs in their application and we will do our best to ensure they get into as many of those as possible.
Camps are located on Washburn Tech's campus, located at 5724 SW Huntoon St. in Topeka.
Camp for rising 7th and 8th grade students takes place June 3-6, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Camp for rising 9th and 10th grade students takes place June 10-13, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Summer camp program options

Auto Service Technology: Want to work on a car? Get a taste of the latest technology. Electrical and mechanical systems will be explored using hands-on activities. Learn how to change a tire, use automotive tools, and keep yourself and others safe in a shop.
- Only available Week 1, June 3-6th.
Collision Repair: What happens after a car accident? Maybe a closer look into our auto body shop would put some color in your future or straighten your career path.
Culinary: Do you like to play with sharp things and work with fire in the kitchen? Do you like to eat? Experience it all in our Culinary program. You’ll learn about kitchen safety, develop basic knife skills, prepare a tasty dinner dish with a sauce, and prepare a tantalizing cake. Have fun making your family and friends happy with food while gaining the skills to start a career. Oh, and yes, you get to take your goodies home
Diesel Technology: The diesel industry is more than just big machines. These are machines that move the world! Everything in your life can be linked to the diesel industry. Everything, so that means our industry needs everyone! Campers will receive classroom and lab fundamentals related to real world experiences, shop safety, the 4-stroke cycle of an engine, engine disassembly, reassembly, and the future of technology and opportunity within the equipment industry.
Electrical: You turn on a light or plug in a charger for your cell phone, and it works! Ever wondered how? Explore how to wire a common household switch, plug and light.
Healthcare: Do you dream about being in the healthcare industry? Healthcare continues to be one of the fastest growing industries. Healthcare workers are well paid and in demand. If you think you want to be in healthcare, come and experience it. We will look at a wide variety of career options from entry level to advanced, and from prehospital and in the field, like EMTs and paramedics, to acute care fields like nursing. We will do some hands-on interactions in our simulation lab, listen to a few guest speakers from the industry, and tour the tech center to brief on various health care options offered here and at Washburn University.

Information Systems Technology: Do you want to learn about computer hardware and software and how they function? Learn how to build a computer, how to troubleshoot and solve computer problems, how to create a network cable and setup and troubleshoot a computer network. Learn to write computer code, create a web page and much more. Join us if you like technology and would like to learn more about it.
Machine Tool: Learn the ins and the outs of how things work and how they are designed. You'll gain the skills to plan, manufacture, assemble, test and repair parts as well as mechanisms and machines.

Plumbing: Do you ever wonder how water gets to your faucet? Or wow your shower actually works or how your toilet flushes? You can learn all this and more!
Surgical Technology/Sterile Processing: What do sterile processing techs and surgical technologists do? Here you’ll have hands on experience of the operating room with laparoscopic surgery, surgical instruments, sutures and more. You’ll also get to experience the special skills and knowledge of sterile processing in decontamination, preparation and sterilization!

Welding: Get an introduction to what welding is, where it is commonly used, and the personal protection equipment needed to weld safely. Take part in a hands-on introduction and practice welding with Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG).
