Washburn Tech to Host Fifth Annual Signing Day

February 14, 2018

Topeka, Kan. – A new class of recruits will ink their future with Washburn Tech during National Technical Letter of Intent Signing Day from 9:15 until 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2018. New students, enrolled in either the current semester or next fall, will take part in a signing ceremony that is similar to an athletic signing in Washburn Tech’s Conference Center at 5724 S.W. Huntoon.

Washburn Tech’s event, now in its fifth year, mirrors the NCAA’s National Signing Day for athletes who commit to play sports in college. It is designed to honor students who are entering a technical field and to celebrate the dignity of work. Washburn Tech traditionally signs more than 400 students on Signing Day.

“Signing Day has become a revolutionary event in technical education,” said Clark Coco, dean, Washburn Tech. “What began five years ago on our campus has now spread across the country with more than 50 colleges participating this year. We are telling potential students that we want them on campus and that companies need them in the workforce.”

Area business and community leaders along with several of Washburn Tech’s corporate partners will be in attendance to show support. It offers them a chance to meet their workforce of tomorrow.

Washburn Tech offers more than 35 career programs in one of five divisions: Construction, Health Care, Human Services, Technology and Transportation. Serving both high school and adult students, Washburn Tech’s graduation and placement rates are the highest in the state.
