The Accelerating Opportunities-Kansas (AO-K) program which was developed by the Kansas Board of Regents in partnership with the Kansas Department of Commerce is also offered through the Advantage Center. Individuals who want to work toward their GED and acquire technical training at the same time can do so through the AO-K program. Tuition costs for the technical classes are paid by the Kansas Board of Regents. The student only pays a $30 student materials fee and the cost of taking each of four tests to earn the GED.
At the core of AO-K are career pathway programs through which Adult Education and career/technical education instructors team-teach classes. Supplemental instruction is designed to develop skills which assist students in passing the GED tests while working toward their technical certificate. Students complete short-term certificates programs aligned with labor market needs, which provides them an edge in the competitive marketplace.
Washburn Tech, Washburn Tech Adult Learning Center and the Let’s Help Adult Learning Center all partner to provide AO-K. AO-K focuses in the following occupational areas:
For more information about any of these career pathways, contact Lea Ann Curtis at 785.670.2248 or email@example.com.
An Adult Education program also is offered through the Advantage Center. Qualifying students may build their academic or English language skills for personal enrichment, for employment, to attend college or as preparation for the GED exam. Students do not have to be co-enrolled in technical education classes to participate in the Adult Education program. The student only pays the $30 student materials fee and the cost of taking each of four pre-tests and four tests to earn the GED. All other adult education services are at no-charge to the individual student. View the GED and ESL orientation schedule to see what works best for you!
