Each year, two students are chosen to receive the Outstanding Student Award. This honor is based on their overall outstanding performance at Washburn Tech. Students are nominated by their instructor and are chosen based on attendance, academic achievement, an essay and a personal interview. Outstanding Student Award recipients receive a $500 cash award in recognition of their accomplishment.
Chad Davis is a graduate of the Cabinet/Mill program. He began his post-secondary education at a community college but learned he didn't have a passion for general education courses. After talking with friends and co-workers, he was guided to Washburn Tech. Chad discovered that he has a passion and aptitude for working with his hands and for cabinetmaking. He medaled at SkillsUSA competition and accepted a job with a local cabinet shop.
Rachel Hockenbarger is a graduate of the Culinary Arts program and Topeka West High School. She also is enrolled in college courses at Washburn University working toward her associate degree with a plan to complete her bachelor's degree in business. Rachel's career goal is to own and operate a bakery.
