Scholarships

Many scholarship opportunities are available to Washburn Tech students. Each scholarship has specific eligibility criteria so check-out your options listed below. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

ABWA-Career Chapter Scholarship

  • Preference given to women attending Washburn Tech or Washburn University
  • Must be enrolled to attend Washburn Tech (minimum of 12-credit hours) or Washburn University (minimum of 6-credit hours)
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must have professional or business career goals
  • Applications are typically due in the spring

Beaman Family Scholarships

  • Available fall and spring
  • Award amount - $1,000
  • Must have a high school diploma or a GED
  • Must be enrolled in an eligible career program (Advanced Systems Technology, Building Technology, Cabinet/Millwork, Climate and Energy Control, Commercial and Heavy Construction, Electrical Technology, Practical Nursing or Surgical Technology)
  • Must have completed at least one semester (part or full-day)
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Must complete general scholarship application including essay questions
  • Must submit 1 recommendation form; cannot be from family/friends
  • Submit application packet to the Washburn Tech Financial Aid Office located in the Student Services Office, only one packet per semester
  • Scholarship is not renewable for subsequent semesters

Bryden Scholarship

  • For high school students who are eligible for free/reduced lunch at their home high school
  • Must be attending Washburn Tech as a high school student
  • Granted on a first-come, first-served basis
  • Applications are accepted throughout the school year as funding is available

Collision Education Foundation Scholarships

  • For high school senior collision students and college collision students
  • $200,000+ in awards available including tool grant for veterans

Cosmetology Scholarship

  • High school and post-secondary students are eligible to apply
  • Must be enrolled in cosmetology program
  • Available fall, spring and summer
  • Award amount - $250 for high school students and $500 for post-secondary students
  • Must complete cosmetology scholarship application including essay questions
  • Must submit application packet to the Washburn Tech Financial Aid office located in Student Services Office; only one packet per semester
  • Scholarship is not renewable for subsequent semesters

Culinary Arts Scholarship

  • Available spring only
  • Award amount - $300
  • High school and post-secondary students are eligible to apply; top-ranked high school applicant and top-ranked post-secondary applicant will receive this scholarship
  • Must be enrolled in the final semester of the Culinary Arts program
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • Must complete general scholarship application, including essay questions
  • Must submit 1 recommendation form; cannot be from family/friends
  • Submit application packet to the Washburn Tech Financial Aid Office located in the Student Services Office, only one packet per semester
  • Deadline to apply for this scholarship is typically in the spring
  • Applications are reviewed one time per semester (spring)
  • Scholarship is not renewable for subsequent semesters

Daniel Kelley Memorial Scholarship

  • Available fall and spring
  • Award amount - $500
  • Must have a high school diploma or a GED
  • Must be enrolled in Diesel Technology or Heavy Diesel Technology
  • Must have completed at least half of the Diesel Technology or Heavy Diesel program; does not include Locomotive Diesel Technology
  • Must have a cumulative GPA or 3.0 or higher
  • Must complete a general scholarship application including essay questions
  • Must submit 1 recommendation form; cannot be from family/friends
  • Submit application packet to the Washburn Tech Financial Aid Office located in the Student Services Office, only one packet per semester
  • Applications are reviewed one time per semester
  • Scholarship is not renewable for subsequent semesters

Drexler Scholarship

  • Available spring only
  • Award amount - $500
  • Must have a high school diploma or a GED
  • Must have completed at least one semester (part or full-day)
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Must provide verification of service in combat duty in a recognized conflict, combat or war zone
  • Must provide DD214 showing honorable discharge
  • Must complete general scholarship application including essay questions
  • Must submit 1 recommendation form; cannot be from family/friends
  • Submit application packet to the Washburn Tech Financial Aid Office located in the Student Services Office, only one packet per semester
  • Applications are reviewed one time per semester
  • Scholarship is not renewable for subsequent semesters

Ed Bozarth Chevrolet #1 Buick GMC, Inc. Scholarship

  • Available fall and spring
  • Award amount - $1,000
  • Must have a high school diploma or a GED
  • Must be enrolled in the Automotive Service Technician program
  • Must have completed at least one semester (part or full-day)
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must complete general scholarship application including essay questions
  • Must submit 1 recommendation form; cannot be from family/friends
  • Submit application packet to the Washburn Tech Financial Aid Office located in the Student Services Office, only one packet per semester
  • Applications are reviewed one time per semester
  • Scholarship is not automatically renewable for subsequent semesters but students may re-apply for subsequent semester

Joint Economic Development Organization (JEDO) and GO Topeka Scholarship

  • Available fall, spring and summer
  • $250 for students enrolled in 9-17 credit hours
  • $500 for students enrolled 18+ credit hours
  • $750 for students enrolled in Climate and Energy Control during the summer semester
  • Must be a high school graduate or have a GED
  • Must be a Shawnee County resident
  • Must be accepted into one of the following high demand career programs as determined by the KS Dept. of Commerce
EMT
  • Available to new and continuing students (continuing students must have 3.0 GPA or higher)
  • Must complete general scholarship application including essay questions
  • Must submit 1 recommendation form, see recommendation form; cannot be from family/friends
  • Submit application packet to the Washburn Tech Financial Aid Office located in the Student Services Office, only one packet per semester
  • If funds are available, awards will automatically be renewed for all subsequent semesters within the same academic program if the student maintains a Washburn Tech cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

KBS Scholarship

  • Available fall and spring
  • Award amount - $250
  • High school and post-secondary students are eligible to apply
  • Must be enrolled in an eligible career program (Building Technology, Cabinet/Millwork, Climate and Energy Control, Commercial and Heavy Construction, Electrical Technology)
  • Available to new and continuing students; continuing students must have a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Must complete general scholarship application including essay questions
  • Must submit 1 recommendation form; cannot be from family/friends
  • Submit application packet to the Washburn Tech Financial Aid Office located in the Student Services Office, only one packet per semester
  • Applications for this scholarship are reviewed one time per semester
  • If funds are available, scholarship is automatically renewed for one subsequent semester for students who maintain a Washburn Tech cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

Locomotive Diesel - NARS - Scholarship

  • Available fall and spring
  • Award amount - $500 for half day students; $1,000 for full day students
  • High school and post-secondary students are eligible to apply
  • Must be accepted in the Locomotive Diesel Technology program and be enrolled in the NARS curriculum
  • Must complete general scholarship application including essay questions
  • Must submit 1 recommendation form; cannot be from family/friends
  • Submit application packet to the Washburn Tech Financial Aid Office located in the Student Services Office, only one packet per semester
  • Applications are reviewed one time per semester
  • Scholarship is not renewable for subsequent semesters

MANA de Topeka Scholarship

  • established to assist Latina (Hispanic female) students in completing their higher education
  • must be enrolling or re-enrolling full-time in a technical college, community college or university
  • must graduate from high school or complete a GED before attending
  • must be a resident of Topeka and/or Shawnee County
  • 3.0 GPA or higher
  • must demonstrate leadership and community involvement

Phlebotomy Scholarship

  • Available fall, spring, summer
  • Award amount - up to the amount of institutional charges such as tuition, technology fee and lab fee; scholarship does not cover cost of textbooks or uniforms
  • High school and post-secondary students are eligible to apply
  • Must be enrolled in the Phlebotomy program
  • Must complete Phlebotomy Scholarship Application including essay questions
  • Submit application packet to the Washburn Tech Financial Aid Office located in the Student Services Office, only one packet per semester
  • Scholarship is not renewable for subsequent semesters

Rees Scholarship

Tech Style Drumline Scholarship

  • Available fall and spring
  • Award amount - $500
  • High school and post-secondary students are eligible to apply
  • Available to new and continuing students; continuing students must have a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Must complete Drumline Scholarship Application, including essay questions
  • Must submit 1 recommendation form; cannot be from family/friends
  • Submit application packet to the Washburn Tech Financial Aid Office in the Student Services Office, only one packet per semester
  • Scholarship is automatically renewed for students who maintain a Washburn Tech cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

Topeka High School Class of 1952 Scholarship

  • Available fall only
  • Award amount - $500
  • Must be a Topeka High School graduate from the most recent graduating class and have an official high school transcript on file at Washburn Tech
  • Have a final high school GPA of at least 2.5
  • Provide a birth certificate for proof of U.S. Citizenship
  • Available to new and continuing students; continuing students must have a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Must complete general scholarship application; instead of completing the essay questions on the application, the applicant must submit a statement of 100 words of less on what receiving the scholarship would mean to the applicant
  • Must submit at least 1 recommendation form; cannot be from family/friends
  • Submit application packet to the Washburn Tech Financial Aid Office located in the Student Services Office, only one packet per semester
  • Applications are reviewed once in the fall
  • Scholarship is automatically renewed for one subsequent semester for students who maintain a Washburn Tech cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

Varsity Tutors Scholarship

  • Monthly contest for $1,000 college scholarship
  • Students must write essay in response to monthly prompt
  • Finalists are chosen through social media
  • Varsity Tutors chooses monthly winner

Washburn Women's Alliance Scholarships

  • preference given to single parents who are advancing their education at Washburn University and/or Washburn Tech

Yingling Scholarship

  • Available fall and spring
  • Award amount - $500
  • Must have a high school diploma or a GED
  • Must be enrolled in an eligible career program (Automotive Service Technician or Auto Collision)
  • Must have completed at least one semester (part or full-day)
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Must complete general scholarship application including essay questions
  • Must submit 1 recommendation form; cannot be from family/friends
  • Submit application packet to the Washburn Tech Financial Aid Office located in the Student Services Office, only one packet per semester
